A Mid Suffolk choir has celebrated its 100th singer with a sell-out performance in Elmswell.

The Song Circle choir, made up of women from seven Suffolk towns and villages, held a concert to mark the milestone on Sunday at the Church of St John the Divine.

Choir leader Anna Winton Mills, who has more than 40 years experience teaching music, founded the women’s choir after the Covid-19 lockdown to provide a warm, supportive space for people to learn to sing.

She was overwhelmed with the demand for spaces.

At the celebratory performance, the audience was treated to a mix of songs including The Drunken Sailor and tracks from Les Miserables.

Elaine Vel, from Stowmarket, became the 100th recruit and was presented with flowers and a term’s free rehearsal fees.

Dozens of women from Elmswell, Hollesley, Ixworth, Long Melford, Otley, Pakenham, and Stowmarket joined the performance.

Song Circle holds weekly rehearsals at locations across the seven Suffolk towns and villages.

The choir held their third Christmas performance last year at St Mary’s Church, Woolpit.
