Middlesbrough fly-tipper hit with £800 fine over alley waste dump
A fly-tipper who dumped sacks of household waste in a Middlesbrough back alley has been hit with a fine.
Middlesbrough Council ’s Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Team was called in to deal with the incident on Thursday, November 14. They found eight black bags containing kitchen utensils, clothing, children’s toys and domestic waste.
Evidence identifying the culprit was found within the waste, and after being spoken to under caution they were issued with an £800 Fixed Penalty Notice. “If the fine is not paid within 14 days, the case will go to court,” A Middlesbrough Council spokesperson added.

The waste items were removed by Middlesbrough Council’s Environmental Flying Squad shortly after being discovered. Councillor Janet Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Community Safety, said: “Anyone who doesn’t know they can’t do this really hasn’t been paying attention, and now they’re paying the price.
“The rules around fly-tipping are crystal clear, and we will enforce them wherever we can in an effort to stamp out this menace that can blight entire neighbourhoods. The message is plain and simple – dispose of your waste legally and responsibly or face a hefty fine and a possible criminal record.”
Anyone with information on fly-tipping can send details to evidence@middlesbrough.gov.uk or call the Contact Centre on 01642 726001. Fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and many other offences can also be reported online.
Residents can also book online to dispose of large items at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill. There is no charge for residents but fees apply for businesses.
