Middlesbrough Pride 2024: What to expect when event returns this month
Middlesbrough Pride returns this month!
The event will take place in the centre of town on Saturday, September 28 and organisers say there will be something for everyone of all ages.
More than 5,000 people enjoyed live entertainment, activities and markets at Middlesbrough Pride in 2023 and this year's celebration of Middlesbrough's LGBTQIA+ community will see more experiences to enjoy.
At Middlesbrough Town Hall, between 12pm until 5pm, visitors can enjoy live performances on the Pride Stage from Tiny Temper, Arya Quinn, Ryan Petitjean, with special guest, ‘Viva La Radio’ and ‘Hey Micky’ singer, Lolly and more to be announced. Hosted by Mimi and drag artists Monarchy and Bonnie La Bleu.
The Pride Market in the Town Hall’s Fire Station will host stalls from local businesses and makers, open from 11am until 4pm. Free Family Arts Zone workshops will also be happening throughout the day.
Middlesbrough Town Hall is also offering a free taster session for it's Performing Arts’ workshop for those aged 6-12 years interested in acting, singing, movement or writing. LGBTQIA+ young people between the ages 12-19 can join Sophie Seita at the Town Hall for free creative workshops exploring performance, creative writing and music from 3pm and festival goers can join The Word for their immersive, interactive performance inspired by arcade machine fortune tellers, The Misfortune Teller.
For those looking for a moment of calm, the town hall will be offering a Quiet Pride space from 12pm-2pm. Over at the Holiday Inn Express, members of the trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming communities are invited to meet and chat over a cup of tea from 2pm - 3.30pm.
At 12pm there will be an opportunity to join in the Pop-Up Pride Parade from Middlesbrough Town Hall around Orange Pip Market, which will be taking place in Centre Square! Enjoy live performances on the Orange Pip Stage from 12pm until 6.30pm.
At MIMA, you can snap a quick selfie in front of the Progress Pride Flag displayed proudly in the atrium window, make your own Pride masterpiece at their Pride Family Art Trolley from 11am, or discover "We Are Family", a celebration of children's books and poetry that spark important conversations about identity, mental health and diversity from 10am.
Teesside Uni students and staff can meet at the SU in the morning to join in with Queer Yoga, grab some breakfast before heading over to Middlesbrough Pride together to get glittered up and enjoy the day. And for those keeping their Pride celebrations going into the night, Sapphires and Club XS host Pride's official after parties open until late.
Adam Hampton, owner of Club XS and Sapphires said: "We are really excited to be part of the pride, we have made huge steps towards creating a pride that Middlesbrough deserves. It will be fantastic for the town and local businesses. We hope people come out and support us, the community and enjoy incredible entertainment and after parties."
Middlesbrough Pride is presented by Pride in Tees Valley, a project coordinated by Teesside-based LGBTQIA+ arts charity Curious Arts and Middlesbrough Pride Community Committee, in association with Middlesbrough Town Hall, Middlesbrough Council and Orange Pip Market, Middlesbrough Pride will celebrate the Tees Valley’s LGBTQIA+ community through a variety of free and low cost activities.
