‘Full agreement reached’ as midfielder ‘wants to work under Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag’
Man Utd are reportedly close to completing the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer after the Bayern Munich midfielder agreed to join the Premier League club.
The Red Devils confirmed on Tuesday that Christian Eriksen will be out injured until late April at the earliest.
This sprung them into some unexpected transfer action with the transfer deadline fast approaching.
The January transfer window closes on Tuesday night, and the Premier League giants have been trying to find a short-term midfield option on the market.
Bayern Munich’s Sabitzer then quickly emerged as a possible acquisition.
It was reported that Man Utd and Chelsea were interested in signing the Austrian international, however, it was later said that the Blues are not looking to sign him.
According to The Athletic, Man Utd are now ‘close to reaching an agreement’ with Bayern over the loan signing of Sabitzer.
The 28-year-old is flying over to Manchester to complete the deal with the transfer expected to be a ‘straight loan’, which will suit the Red Devils down to the ground.
Fabrizio Romano later gave the deal the ‘here we go’ treatment.
He said: “Marcel Sabitzer to Manchester United, here we go! Full agreement reached on loan deal, no buy option — confirmed.
“Deal set to be signed with Bayern in the final hours as personal terms agreed too.”
The Austria midfielder joined Bayern from RB Leipzig for €15million in August 2021.
He has played 24 matches across all competitions this term, providing two goal contributions with the Bavarians top of the Bundesliga and in the last 16 of the Champions League.
A new midfielder has been brought in after Eriksen was ruled out for a few months.
A Man Utd statement read on Tuesday morning: “Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.
“Our Danish midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the 3-1 win after being caught by a tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll.
“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.”
Red Devils boss Ten Hag added: “As you said, on deadline day it’s difficult.
“You can’t make policy on such bad injuries but we have players in the midfield department and good players. We have players who can fill that gap.”
