Midlothian restaurant bursts into flames as hero firefighters tackle ongoing blaze


Emergency services have raced to a fire that had broken out at a popular Chinese takeaway in a Midlothian town during the night as smoke can be seen billowing out across the community.

The incident is understood to have began at around 4.30am on Saturday, June 1, with heroic firefighters jumping into action in order to tackle the blaze.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) say they first attended the blaze at 4.30am at what is believed to be Beijing Banquet at 17 Maulsford Avenue but after initially leaving they then returned again at 7.10am and remain on site.

They say that five appliances including a height appliance have been sent to deal with the inferno.

Video circulating online appears to show smoke emanating from the top of the takeaway units roof as spreads across a nearby Danderhall scheme.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We initially received a call regarding a fire at a takeaway unit on 17 Maulsford Avenue, Danderhall, Midlothian, at 4.30am on Saturday June 1.

"Five appliances and a height appliance initially attended the scene before leaving and returning at around 7.10am.
