Here are our player ratings from the game...

Returned to the starting line-up after recovering from a back injury and kept a clean sheet. He made a couple of decent saves in the first-half from Lane and Bishop. Such was Town's dominance, he was a spectator in the second-half, but he kept his concentration to secure a solid shutout. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

What an absolute weapon. Start building that statue because he is becoming a cult hero. Assisted the winner with an inviting free-kick delivery. Covered every blade of grass. And what about THAT triple tackle towards the end of the game that got everyone out of their seat. Celebrated his new contract this week in style. My man of the match. (Photo: Tina Jenner)
It's been a stop-start season for the centre-back and the spotlight was on him after the injury to Williams last weekend. But he showed everyone what he is capable of with a faultless display. He made a couple of timely interceptions in each half, tackled well and was always in the right position. Cool on the ball, too. (Photo: Jan Kruger)

Like Palmer, Grimes also put in a rock solid display. He didn't seem to be in the thick of the action quite as much Palmer was, but he was still very good. His passing caught the eye again and he was no-nonsese in clearing his lines and sweeping up whenever there was a chance Pompey might get through. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Back in the starting XI and he was an attacking outlet down the left. A couple of times he made off-the-ball runs which caught Pompey cold. He was up against a tricky winger in Lane, but he gave a good account of himself. Came off with 20 minutes remaining. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Not many people would have expected him to start, but he came in instead of Jones, and he can be very pleased with his performance. I thought we saw a different side of his game today. He did all the scrappy and ugly stuff really well. Off with 10 minutes to go. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

The matchwinner. He will have enjoyed seeing his header hit the back of the net against his old club, but he didn't celebrate too much. After this performance, Pompey might want to re-sign him! He oozed quality in possession and always seemed to be in the right place to get a foot in on the edge of his own box. A heroic outing. Can you have a triple man of the match award? Because him, Mandeville and Palmer are all worthy of it. (Photo: Jan Kruger)
His showing will go under the radar because of some of the others, but he was excellent. He played some really intelligent passes to stretch the Portsmouth defence. There were also some silky touches. He dug in and showed a calmness on the ball in tight areas when under pressure. Forced Norris into a save before half-time. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Another impressive performance from the in-form man. He came close to scoring a couple of times in the first-half, forcing Norris to parry with one effort and curling narrowly wide with another. Bit surprised he got taken off on 65 minutes, but that might have been with next week in mind, and it all worked out in the end. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

He was a real thorn in Pompey's side in the second-half. Town kept giving him the ball and he got them up the pitch on a number of occasions. He was good at that in the first 45 as well, drawing fouls when surrounded in tight spaces in deep areas. He had a good chance to pull the trigger in the box, but ended up on the floor. Replaced on 70. (Photo: Jan Kruger)
The striker set the tone in the first 10 seconds when he pressed and blocked Norris' attempted clearance. He ran the line intelligently in the first-half and had the beating of the Pompey backline pace-wise. One show of strength on Poole created an opening for Banks. Town couldn't find him as much after the break, but he still put in a shift. (Photo: Jan Kruger)
Replaced Banks on 65. Dobra moved into the '10' and Colclough went to the left. He gave Town some fresh legs and direct running power. He came close to scoring a couple of times. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Came on for Dobra on 70. Got straight down to work with his pressing and hassling. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Not easy coming on as a sub in such a fast-paced and intense match but I thought he slotted in nicely after replacing Mandeville on 80. (Photo: Tina Jenner)

Another one who came on and got involved after replacing Oldaker on 80. Showed a willingness to work and put the Pompey defence under pressure. Overall, everyone played their part. (Photo: Tina Jenner)
