Mighty Hoopla 2023: Rachel Stevens pulls out of festival following death of S Club 7 bandmate Paul Cattermole

Rachel Stevens has pulled out of an appearance at this year’s Mighty Hoopla festival following the death of S Club 7 bandmate Paul Cattermole.

Cattermole was found dead aged 46 at his Dorset home on 6 April with a coronor confirming that his cause of death was from “natural causes”.

Stevens, 45, originally found fame in the pop group and launched a solo career off the back of it.

She had originally been due to perform on both Saturday 3 June and Sunday 4 June of London day festival Mighty Hoopla, but organisers have now confirmed that she will no longer appear.

In an announcement shared hours after the coroner’s announcement, Mighty Hoopla issued a statement on social media saying that the singer would no longer be performing at the event in Brockwell Park.

It read: “After the recent tragic passing of S Club’s Paul Cattermole, it is with deep sadness that Rachel Stevens has had to withdraw from performing at this year’s Mighty Hoopla,” they tweeted.

“We support Rachel and send our love to the entire S Club family, and hope to welcome Rachel back another year.”

Cattermole’s passing came almost two month’s after the Reach hit-makers announced a reunion tour with all seven original members to mark their 25th anniversary.

Currently the tour is still due to go ahead in the autumn, however member Hannah Spearitt, who was in a relationship with Cattermole for five years during the early noughties, will no longer take part and is said to be struggling to come to terms with his death.

In a video to fans posted on Instagram, singer John Lee said of Spearitt’s departure: “She won’t be joining us on this tour but we wish her all the best for the future. However, the five of us are really excited and geared up to crack on.”
