Mike Bushell has had a facelift to “tidy” up his flabby skin after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Breakfast star said he became more aware of his appearance when he competed on this year’s series of the BBC dance competition.

He also lost some weight before being eliminated from the hit show, and decided it was time to make a change.

The star, who has just turned 54, told MailOnline: “I think it's just with Strictly and losing weight I wanted to tidy any flabby lose skin.”

Bushell had a non-surgical lower facelift, which meant he did not have to go under the knife.

He said: “I was intrigued to use the Strawberry Lift and not undergo invasive surgery on my chin line.

“And I wanted to look after my appearance as I approached 54.”

The sports reporter was paired with professional dancer Katya Jones on Strictly.

He managed to hang onto his place in the show for weeks despite finding himself in the dreaded dance-off a few times, and admitted he had faced death threats for seeing off other dancers.

However, Bushell’s time on the programme came to an end last month, when he and Jones were beaten by Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice after they ended up in the bottom two.

He said after receiving his marching orders: “I have had the most amazing nine or 10 weeks since we started training.

“I have lost a stone and a half. I’m a guy in his 50s, I’m mentally sharper, I feel able to deal with pressured situations – thanks to the dance-offs!”
