Mike McGrath's transfer notebook: Brighton among Premier League clubs keen on Joshua King

Brighton are among the clubs interested in Joshua King this summer following Bournemouth’s relegation from the Premier League and Eddie Howe’s departure as manager.

King, who has also been monitored by Everton and Burnley, has one season left on his contract at Vitality Stadium and looks set to leave in a deal between £10million and £15million as agreeing fresh terms is unlikely.

Manchester United made a bid on the eve of the January transfer deadline for the 28-year-old to complete a dream move back to Old Trafford after leaving for Blackburn Rovers in 2013. But United are now fully focused on landing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer to bolster their attack.

The Norway forward is one of the departures expected at Bournemouth this summer following relegation, with Callum Wilson also attracting interest from Premier League clubs who can offer top-flight football ahead of next year’s European Championships.

No buy-back clause for Liverpool with Danny Ings

Liverpool did not insert a buy-back clause when Danny Ings completed his permanent move to Southampton a year ago.

Ings was the Premier League’s second highest scorer last season, with 25 in all competitions, to put himself back in contention for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The 28-year-old has two seasons left on his contract at St Mary’s which will be noted by rivals clubs. Liverpool ended up with four players current or former players in the top six 2019-20 goalscorers, with Ings joined by Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling.

Newcastle United face long list of negotiations

Newcastle United have been assessing their transfer options but they are also set to make decisions on the long list of players with contracts expiring in less than a year.

Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez and DeAndre Yedlin are first-team regulars set to open talks on fresh terms and Fabian Schar, Dwight Gayle Ciaran Clark and Karl Darlow will also be considered for  extensions.

Leeds are considering a move for Matty Longstaff, who can move for training compensation as his contract is up this summer. The England Under-20 international also has interest from abroad.

CAS report contains warning for Premier League

Manchester City’s successful appeal against their Champions League ban contained a worrying prediction for the rest of the Premier League in the published findings of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

City wanted the coronavirus pandemic to be taken into account when punished for failing to cooperate with UEFA’s investigation into Financial Fair Play breaches, suggesting stadium attendance could be impacted “for years to come”.

Chief executives expect transfer budgets to be directly linked to fans being allowed through the turnstiles, given the biggest arenas can generate more than £5million per match.

“The Panel also does not find it appropriate to take into account the argument raised by MCFC at the hearing that the current Covid-19 pandemic should be reflected in the sanctions imposed considering the impact this has and may have for years to come on stadium attendance,” read CAS’ findings.
