Since outing itself as a ready-to-wear brand and not just the sole purveyor of the world’s most iconic driving shoe, luxury giant Tod’s has learnt the value of having more than one string to its bow.

At its latest showcase in Milan this morning, Tod’s design team continued its evolution from accessory giant to well-versed Milanese fashion outfitter.

Tod’s used its billing on the top of the third day of Milan Fashion Week as an opportunity to convince a new customer to join its long-established fan base.

In order to help fulfil this ambition, the brand enlisted millennial poster girls Gigi and Bella Hadid to help showcase its offering for next spring.

Dressed in a patchwork leather coat, micro shorts and backless snakeskin loafers, Gigi was first on the catwalk, later changing into a leather trouser suit which was decked out in a very Instagram-friendly millennial pink.

She was joined on the catwalk by younger sister Bella who sported a snakeskin shirt and suede kick flares before swapping into a chocolate brown leather bomber and shorts. For the super-brand, which also owns footwear brands Hogan and Roger Vivier, the decision to recruit these super social-ites was a shrewd move. With a combined Instagram following of 63.3 million, the Hadid sisters make for a powerful double act as far as generating likes is concerned.

This desire to court a new breed of consumer who shops via scrolling social feeds rather than strolling down the high street was also evidenced in the large number of bloggers and digital influencers who sat and snapped iPhone shots from the front row.

The Hadid sisters were also joined on the catwalk by Brit It-girl Edie Campbell, who closed today’s showcase dressed in blush leather tracksuit.
