Miles Teller has revealed that the training he underwent for Top Gun: Maverick was so intense that he felt it might have ended in his death.

The 35-year-old actor said that at one point he thought his life would end during a brutal and dangerous training regimen concocted by leading-man Tom Cruise.

"I definitely had a moment where I thought I was going to die," he told LADBible. "There was a sequence where we were heading straight towards the ground and you do what’s called a max G pull-up.

"You’re heading down and at the last second you yank up, and it’s really tough for the pilot. It’s something they train in all the time, but it was the first time we’d done a manoeuvre like that and I completely stopped acting.

"I looked at the ground, and thought this wasn’t going to end well for me."

Teller, who plays Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, explained that he was so pumped up on adrenaline during the training and filming that he has been put off of G-Force high-octane machines and has developed a newfound appreciation for regular, everyday commercial aircraft.

"I like a flight with very minimal G exposure,” Teller said.

The film, which has been met with critical acclaim, with many critics calling it superior to its predecessor.

It hits screens after more than thirty years since the release of the first Top Gun, and follows Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Cruise who has been of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators for just as long.

Top Gun: Maverick is currently showing in UK theatres.
