Miley Cyrus has opened up on her divorce from Liam Hemsworth, saying “there was too much conflict” in their marriage.

The pair divorced in 2019, a year after tying the knot and almost a decade since their on-off relationship first began.

Miley has now spoken of how her and Liam’s home burning down in 2018′s California wildfires prior to their wedding contributed to the end of their marriage.

Appearing on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show in the US, the Midnight Sky singer said: “You’re attracted to that heat, and me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him.”

She continued: “And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”

Miley added: “In trying to put that back together, instead of going, ‘Oh, nature kind of did something I couldn’t do for myself; it forced me to let go,’ I ran toward the fire, which is not abnormal, a lot of animals do this and end up dying, like, deers run into the forest.”

Speaking about the “conflict” in their marriage, Miley continued: “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”

During the interview, the former Hannah Montana star also discussed the difficulties of staying sober amid the pressures brought by the pandemic.

She previously told how she stopped drinking alcohol after undergoing vocal cord surgery late last year.

“The hardest times have been in this pandemic,” she said. “I am always truthful. And a lot of people, their sobriety broke during this time. I was one of them. Luckily, I haven’t gone back to using any drugs, but I was drinking during the pandemic.”

Miley said she was not calling it a “relapse,” adding drinking had not “been my demon”.

“If anything, it just makes me not reach my full potential, which is unacceptable to me. Like, I will not accept anyone or anything that causes me to not reach my fullest potential,” she said.
