Yahoo News Millie Bobby Brown adapting London-set debut book into Netflix movie
Millie Bobby Brown is set to adapt her own novel, Nineteen Steps, into a feature film for Netflix.
The star, best known for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things, released the novel in 2023, with the plot - which was inspired by her own family - following a teenager in 1940s Britain as they navigate both adolescence and wartime life.

Brown had previously discussed adapting the novel, and it now seems her dream has become a reality, with Deadline reporting that the actor is expected to both star in and produce the film. Anthony McCarten, best known for The Theory of Everything and Bohemian Rhapsody, is being lined up to pen the script.
Brown previously discussed plans to adapt the novel as part of her production company, PCMA, saying: “Yes, definitely [I would adapt it]. That was the intention behind it. Naturally, I just want to create more, so, yes, this is a great foundation.
“My nan told me the stories when I couldn't sleep at night and I think, for a while, and maybe until I was eight, I didn't think they were real,” she added about her inspiration for the novel. “Then I slowly realised that these were things that happened to her in her childhood, during World War Two.

“It's [Bethnal Green] where my grandmother lived and I went there very frequently for summers and I bought that the other day. It was amazing just to go back and to reminisce on all that nostalgia, but it's a really important place to her and to our whole family.
“I’m very gravitated towards things that mean something to me and just more of a woman-centric role. I’m very, very committed to moving people with what I do,” added the star, who has also appeared in the Enola Holmes and Godzilla franchises.
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is now booking until February 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets are available now.
