BlackBerry users hit by second outage

BlackBerry users are claiming that they are suffering more disruption to their data services the day after a fault cut off millions from their e-mails, instant messaging and Internet for 20 hours.

The crash came a few hours after RIM  issued a statement saying that all services were now "operating normally".

At around 12.20pm Tuesday, owners of the hand-held device started to tweet their frustration at the second outage.

The service crashed the first time at 11am GMT yesterday and affected people who are reliant on their e-mail, BlackBerry messenger and GPS.

The rest of the world also faced a similar problem with several global phone networks tweeting that their servers were down.

T-Mobile UK told their Twitter followers: "There is an issue with Blackberry services at present. RIM are investigating this at present."

Mobile carriers in Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait Saudi Arabia, Italy, Spain, South Africa and India also reported outages.

The areas that were affected are reportedly served by a RIM data centre in Slough, Berkshire.

Data was restored yesterday afternoon and the service was working this morning.

Canadian company RIM said in a statement Monday: "Some users in EMEA [Europe, Middle East, and Africa] are experiencing issues. We're investigating, and we apologise for any inconvenience."
