Millions of Premium Bonds holders handed 48-hour warning from NS&I

National Savings and Investments (NS&I) has issued a 48-hour warning to millions who hold Premium Bonds. NS&I, which is backed by the Treasury, will be conducting its December draw on Monday - and has alerted customers to how to check whether they've won- before Christmas.

Dax Harkins, NS&I chief executive, emphasised: "Remember, the best way to check if you’ve won this month is by using our (prize checker) app, (NS&I) website, or Alexa." NS&I also now lets Alexa users use the checker, and shares a guide online.

"To get started just open the Skill on the Alexa app and follow the steps," it explains. "You’ll need your NS&I number or holder’s number, if it’s for a child we’ll need their holder’s number. You can add up to 10 NS&I numbers or holders numbers.

"To make it easier for you when checking each month, you’ll get the opportunity to choose a nickname for each one. That way you won’t need to remember all the NS&I numbers or holder's numbers." It adds: "We keep records of Premium Bonds holdings for longer than seven years. This is to allow us to reallocate prizes where we discover that one or more prizes paid out were not valid. This can happen, for example, when a Bond holder dies but no one tells us.

"Each month we publish the winning Premium Bonds numbers on our website, together with the value of the prize, the value of the holding, the date the Bond was bought and the area where the Bond holder lives. We do not publish the names or other details of Premium Bonds winners."
