# 'Mind-blowing' spaghetti hack helps you cook perfect portion size every time

You can't beat a delicious bowl of pasta.

There are plenty of varieties out there – from simple penne, to fancy ravioli and hearty pappardelle. But one thing they have in common is that it can feel impossible to know how much to make!

Many of us know the struggle of finding the correct portion size. On the packet, it sometimes recommends an amount that isn't big enough to satisfy our pasta cravings.

But if you start guestimating the amount, you could end up with way more than you bargained for. Thankfully though, there's a helpful hack to get around the problem.

It was shared on GoodtoKnow's TikTok channel and showed how you can use a pasta ladle to find the correct portion size. The woman in the video simply slots enough pasta through the hole usually used for drainage.

She revealed it is the perfect amount for just one person. The video reads: "Thought this hole was just for draining? It can also be used to measure one serving of spaghetti!"

Commenting on the clip, one impressed user said: "Mind. Blown." Another user added: "Wow." A third user said: "Never knew that." However, others claim they'd still overdo it with the pasta even knowing this, saying: "Then I need three of that."

One more user added: "I used half a packet as a serving." Another user said: "The serving sizes that are on the packaging are just dumb. I couldn't feed a baby with that size." A final user said: "Nope. I'll still eat more than I should."

## How much spaghetti do you need per person?

The general guideline for dried spaghetti is about 2 ounces (56 grams) per person. This typically translates to a small handful or a bundle that is approximately the diameter of a quarter when held in your fingers.

Here's a quick reference:

• For a single serving: 2 ounces (56 grams)

• For two servings: 4 ounces (112 grams)

• For four servings: 8 ounces (224 grams)

These measurements are for dried spaghetti and will yield a typical portion size once cooked. If you're dealing with fresh spaghetti, the portion size per person is often slightly larger, around 3 to 4 ounces (85 to 113 grams) per person, as fresh pasta is denser.

You can adjust quantities according to your guests’ appetites or if you have additional courses or substantial side dishes. Basically, there's no hard and fast rules here!
