An 11-year-old world champion mini stock car driver who was seriously injured in a crash has died in an Edinburgh hospital.

Keir Millar, from Lockerbie, was involved in an accident during a race at Lochgelly Raceway in Fife on Saturday.

Earlier, race organisers Hardie Race Promotions said Millar had died but Police Scotland later said he remained in a "serious condition" in hospital.

His family has since said that he died at 4pm on Monday at the Royal Hospital For Sick Children.

In a further statement issued through police, Keir's family said they were "extremely distraught".

They said: "He was a much loved son and brother and will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

Keir won the Ninja Kart Championship in England last year and took part in the Ministox racing series.
