Minister Demands Report From Police After 'Shocking' Images of Paris Camp Clearing

France’s interior minister described as “shocking” images of the dispersal of a migrant camp in Paris on November 23.

The minister, Gerald Darmanin, said he had demanded a report on the circumstances of the events from the Paris police.

The camp, which police said was illegal, was established at Place de la Republique in central Paris a week after a camp of migrants was cleared in Saint-Denis, on the northern fringe of Paris.

The new camp was part of a protest organised by a group called Utopia 56.

Tensions rose as police moved to clear the camp and there were claims that officers accosted journalists. One journalist, Remy Buisine, said he had been struck by an officer.
