Minnesota Photographer Creates Cool Sunset Effect With Flash-Freezing Bubbles

A Minnesota photographer appeared to trap a sunset in her hand February 19, taking advantage of frigid temperatures to create the cool effect by holding soap bubbles up to the waning light as temperatures hovered near -17 F.

Carol Bauer of Graceville, Minnesota, shot video as the bubbles froze in a matter seconds, creating a series of mesmerizing sunset-soaked “snow globes.”

Bauer told Storyful that the wind was “pretty calm that evening.” Otherwise, the shoot wouldn’t have worked, she said.

Bauer told Storyful the three different bubbles were mounted on a root beer mug, a lawn ornament, and a lens ball, respectively. Credit: Carol Bauer via Storyful
