Minnie Driver set to star in Peep Show remake

Minnie Driver has been cast in the US remake of 'Peep Show'.

The 53-year-old actress will star alongside Amandla Jahava in FX's 'Peep Show' pilot episode, according to Variety.

In response to Variety's story, Minnie wrote on Twitter: "Happy news. No pressure re-making comedy gold though , obviously . @FXNetworks #peepshow (sic)"

Yana Gorskaya is poised to direct the reboot, which is based on the British comedy series of the same name that ran between 2003 and 2015.

The sitcom starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb as the main characters. But the American version of the show is set to have a different dynamic.

The official logline reads: "Taking inspiration from the original UK series ‘Peep Show’ and its unique narrative format, the pilot follows the relationship between a long-suffering assistant (Jahava) and her boss (Driver), an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur."

The pilot was commissioned in December, with Stefani Robinson serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Meanwhile, David Mitchell previously suggested that 'Peep Show' differs from some well-known American comedy shows.

The actor observed that 'Peep Show' fans were often laughing at the main characters, rather than with them.

He explained: "I find it endlessly pleasing that the truth is that almost everyone feels like a bit of an outsider. And the real outsiders are the tiny minority who don’t.

"The success of not just 'Peep Show' but sitcoms in general is a sign of how audiences identify with these apparent outsider oddball failure characters because that’s how the vast majority of people feel about themselves. But it is very comforting, the notion that the people out in the cold are the odd kind of sociopathic uber-successful Etonians who sort of feel included and loved."
