A minute long siren will sound tomorrow in Flintshire, but there is nothing to worry about if you hear it. The siren is being sounded, as a test for two chemical plants, in Mold, to check all is working properly.

A statement about the test said: "The Alyn Works site in Mold, housing chemical firms Synthite and TS Resins, will test its emergency alarm on Tuesday, October 8, as part of a procedure required under safety legislation.

"It will sound at 2pm from the site on Denbigh Road. The time has been chosen to minimise inconvenience to residents. The alarm is a wavering tone lasting about 30 seconds, immediately followed by a flat continuous tone also lasting about 30 seconds that will signal an ‘all clear’. No action will need to be taken.

Health and safety legislation, called the Control of Major Accident Hazard (COMAH) regulations, requires companies storing certain chemicals to carry out regular alarm checks as part of their off-site emergency procedures. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox

A huge fire ripped through the Synthite chemical factory in April. Questions were asked at the time why the siren wasn't sounded. The company explained "no chemicals were released" into the air during the blaze, meaning the siren did not need to be used.
