A minute’s silence for the victims of the London attack

A minute’s silence was held in parliament and in front of the headquarters of New Scotland Yard at 9.33am in London in honour of the victims of the attack on Westminster. 933 was the shoulder number on policeman Keith Palmer, who was stabbed to death. Addressing MPs, the prime minister described PC Palmer as ‘every inch a hero and his actions will never be forgotten”. The 48-year-old husband and father was killed as he tried to stop the attacker in the courtyard outside the Houses of Parliament. One of the two members of public killed in the attack has been named as Aysha Frade, a British national whose mother was from Spain. The wife and mother-of-two worked at DLD College, close to Westminster bridge. The College principal said Aysha “was highly regarded and loved by students and colleagues” adding “she will be deeply missed by all of us”. The police said another man in his 50s had died, but gave no further details. Another 29 people were treated for their injuries, several remain in a critical condition. Among them 12 British citizens, four South Koreans, three French students, two Romanians, two Greeks, one German, one Pole, one Irish citizen, one Chinese person, one Italian and one American. Queen Elizabeth sent her condolences. “My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are with all those who have been affected by yesterday’s awful violence,” she said in a statement.
