Who is Miranda Hart's husband?
Love struck Hart at last as she fell in love with a man she met in the pandemic and they got married when she was aged 51. It's been two years but the TV star has managed to keep her love life a secret while in the spotlight.
In her new book, Hart was delighted to tell her readers that he's "not my boyfriend", that in fact "he's my husband".
Happily the star has shared details of their romance throughout her book, however she has been careful to keep his identity a mystery. Instead of referring to him by his name, Hart has affectionately called him "the Boy from Bristol" or "The Mould Man".
Miranda Hart's Kew Gardens proposal
Letting the readers in on her love story, Hart has shared the first details of the romantic proposal in her book. It was an "ordinary January day" when they went for a walk around the stunning Kew Gardens, in Richmond, London when her then-boyfriend popped the question.
They were stood on the bridge looking out to the lake when Hart was caught by surprise and the actor broke down in happy tears over the emotional moment. Admittedly she thought a traditional proposal wouldn't have tugged on her heartstrings like it did.
In typical Hart style, she recalled the moment with humour poking fun that it would have been awkward if he wasn't going to ask her to marry him.
She wrote of the moment in her book, shared with The Daily Mail: "I turned around and as I did he got down on one knee. "Miranda..." I don't remember anything else because I simply burst out out crying, apparently saying yes before he had finished the sentence (awkward if he'd been tying a shoelace...)."
Miranda Hart's Lyme Disease diagnosis
Getting married isn't the only bombshell that Hart wrote about in her autobiography. The TV personality also lifted the lid on being diagnosed with Lyme Disease. According to the NHS, Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection that infected ticks spread to humans.
Viewers had been disappointed when Hart didn't return to her role on Call The Midwife in 2017, at the time putting it down to a busy work schedule, although she later revealed she was suffering with ill health during a comedy gig.
Doctors misdiagnosed Hart's symptoms as agoraphobic which is an anxiety disorder where the person fears being trapped in situations. It was in lockdown, 33 years on from her first symptoms aged 14, that Hart got a Lyme Disease diagnosis that reflected what she had been experiencing for decades.
In an extract shared with The Daily Mail, she wrote: "I got off that Zoom call, pulled my laptop shut and sat there, still and aghast. So many emotions, I was shocked, but I also immediately felt a deep well of sadness and disappointment - for over three decades I'd KNOWN there was something wrong. I recalled all the times I'd told different doctors, "I feel toxic and poisoned, or, It's like I have flu every day but I don't have a temperature."
"(It's amazing how the body can sometimes literally tell us what's going on.) I felt anger rising at the times l'd been told I must have agoraphobia. I would try and treat it as such, when, as it turned out, it was the lack of energy and the extreme light and sound sensitivity that made my body crash when going out to be in any kind of activity or stimulating environment."
Why Miranda Hart's real reason for writing her book
One of the reasons Hart has written her book was to share what has helped her with her recovery following her Lyme Disease diagnosis.
On Wednesday, she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I thought I need to research this whole wellness expertise and dialogue that's out there, but I was at bed at home alone, the doctors didn't know what to do with me and I couldn't have a cold plunge or go on a yoga retreat.
"So I thought what are the universal truths? So I did years of research, when I felt able to, and in the book there are 10 keys, which I call my treasures, to living well. And they've really genuinely [helped]. I feel like despite the suffering it came from, that I’m living a life of joy and meaning and fulfilment in a way I never have before."
Miranda's memoir I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You is out Thursday October 10.
