Miranda Hart today led the cast of Annie and other West End musicals in trying to lure back tourists who have been put off visiting London after the recent terror attacks.

The casts of shows including Aladdin, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, Mamma Mia, Matilda The Musical, Les Misérables, The Phantom of The Opera, The Kite Runner, Stomp and Wicked have all created their own videos to back the Mayor’s #LondonisOpen campaign ahead of the summer season.

The Society of London Theatre’s box office figures show that more than 14.3 million people visited the West End last year, compared to 13.2 million on Broadway.

However, the industry is keen to reassure visitors the capital is safe and welcoming. Kids Week, which offers free theatre tickets to children accompanied by an adult, will run for the whole of August this year.

Hart said: “There is nothing quite like London’s West End in the summer. Theatreland really comes alive and the atmosphere in the theatre each evening is electric.”

Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “London really is a global leader for world-class theatre.”
