Miranda Hart opens up on tough chronic illness symptoms as she shares 'decades of misdiagnosis'

Miranda Hart has opened up about the tough symptoms she faces each day after being diagnosed with ME. The comedian and TV star, 51, revealed she had been misdiagnosed for decades after contracting lyme disease.

In her latest book, 'I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You', she gives an honest account of the past decade, including her health struggles. Opening up about how the chronic health condition affects her, she shared a heartfelt Instagram message to fans.

In a video, she explained: "I'm just here on the eve of the publication of my book to send my fellow chronic illness sufferers the biggest hug, virtual hug, the biggest love, empathy, understanding and hope. I hope you can borrow my hope if you're feeling in a hopeless situation.

"There are so many people who suffer from chronic fatigue, ME, long covid, chronic pain and of course many other chronic illness. Mine was ME caused by lyme disease. The infection had a serious effect on my immune system after decades of misdiagnosis and all the joyful havoc that played on my body.

"But as I say, if I can be your hope, as I feel like I am recovering. Not fully recovered, physically still live with fatigue and energy depletion, but I feel like I found for myself some answers based on research that mean I can fully recover.

"So I hope you find some nuggets of wisdom in my book that will help you and lead you on your path because there's no one size fits all for these conditions."

She captioned the post: "Sending huge love to all my fellow ME sufferers and all those with chronic conditions. My book doesn’t just speak to that but that was my story, and I know that sadly there a millions who also suffer from similar. Big hopeful hug to you."

Myalgic encephalomyelitis, also called chronic fatigue syndrome or ME/CFS, is a long-term condition that can affect different parts of the body, according to the NHS. The most common symptom is extreme tiredness. The cause of ME is unknown.
