Missing Ayrshire man believed to be wild camping in Argyll

A missing Ayrshire man has been spotted in Argyll as police continue to trace his whereabouts.

William Barclay, 54, was reported missing from his home in Newmilns on September 28 and had not been seen since August 25.

Following CCTV enquiries, police now believe William is wild camping in the Arrochar area following positive sightings between October 23 and November 5.

William was seen in Arrochar on October 23 wearing a baseball style hat and dark outdoor clothing and is described as a white male with a pale complexion, 5’ 10’’ tall and has short, grey, receding hair.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Helensburgh and across Argyll are looking for assistance to trace a 54-year-old male missing from East Ayrshire.

“William Barclay is described as a white male, with pale complexion, 5ft 10in tall, stocky build and with short, grey, receding hair. He is softly spoken with a Scottish/Ayrshire accent.

“William was reported missing on September 28 but has not been seen since August 25 from his home address in Newmilns.

“Following CCTV enquiries, William has been seen in Arrochar, Argyll on October 23. At this time, he was wearing a baseball style hat and dark outdoor clothing.

“We believe William is wild camping and have had positive sightings of him again in Arrochar with the last on November 5.

“William's family are concerned for him and we are keen to ensure he is safe and well. If you think you have seen William or have information as to his whereabouts, please contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1035 of September 28.”
