Missing Glasgow man with dementia may have headed towards Lanarkshire reservoir

A vulnerable 75-year-old man with dementia, who has been missing for three days without his medication, may have headed towards a reservoir in Lanarkshire.

Alexander Marshall was reported missing from Novar Drive, in the city's Hyndland, around 9.40am on Wednesday November 27. Also known as Sandy, the pensioner was seen at a shop on Argyle Street at Glassford Street around 1pm, then later in the Queen Street Station area around 1.45pm.

Further enquiries have revealed he was last seen around 7.54pm in Main Street, Coatbridge carrying a red and blue carrier bag, possibly a Home Bargains bag. Police say he may have headed in the direction of Hillend Reservoir in North Lanarkshire.

Officers are reviewing a wide range of CCTV from where he was last seen to establish where he headed from there.

Alexander is described as around 5ft 8 in height and of slim build with short, grey/white hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a grey jumper, brown gilet, blue jacket, blue jeans, brown shoes and a black hat.

He is known to travel by bus and train and, although he usually stays close to the Partick and Hyndland areas, has previously travelled to the Airdrie area and Glasgow City Centre. Bus and train travellers are asked to look out for him and report any sightings.

Inspector Allan Corson said: "Naturally, Alex’s family are extremely concerned for his safety and wellbeing, particularly given his age and the length of time he has been missing, and we want to trace him as soon as possible.

"Since Alex was reported missing, we have been carrying out enquiries and extensive searches in the areas where he was last seen.

"We have significant resources dedicated to this enquiry. Over the last few days local officers have been supported by specialist teams including Air Support and search trained officers.

"I would ask anyone with private CCTV or doorbell footage around the Airdrie and Coatbridge areas to please review it and contact us if you think you’ve captured him passing. I would also ask motorists with dash-cams who were driving on the A89 between Coatbridge and Newbridge, Edinburgh to check the footage. You may have captured something which could assist our investigation.

"Residents with outbuildings and gardens sheds, I would again ask you to check these in case Alex has sought shelter.

"If you have any information that may help us trace Alexander, please contact 101 quoting reference number 1101 of 27 November."
