MLB Player Freddie Freeman's Son Max, 3, Goes Home Following 8-Day Stay at the Pediatric ICU
The child was diagnosed with transient synovitis (also known as irritable hip) and Guillain-Barre syndrome in July
Freddie Freeman's 3-year-old son is home after an eight-day stay in the hospital.
In a joint Instagram post on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Los Angeles Dodgers player, 34, and his wife Chelsea Freeman shared an update on their son Max's health.
Max was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe pain in July and was diagnosed with transient synovitis, a condition also referred to as irritable hip. He also received a diagnosis of Guillain-Barre syndrome and went into full-body paralysis days later.
"After 8 long days in the Pediatric ICU we are officially HOME!" Freedie and Chelsea began their Instagram caption. They noted that the three-year-old "still has a long road ahead of him to regain his strength and relearn how to walk" but they are grateful that their family is all together once more.
"Thank you God for this miracle. Also, thank you to our incredible team of doctors and angel nurses for taking such good care of our boy. And to our village for helping so much with Charlie and Brandon," the pair added.
Among the photos featured in the post was one of Chelsea, Freddie and Max in a hospital bed.
A picture of a notebook that had "prayers for Max" written on the cover was also shared. Chelsea said in a post on her Instagram Stories that it was gifted to Max from "our whole Dodgers Family" and was filled with "prayers and well wishes."
The Instagram post also included a video of Max being embraced by his brothers, Charlie, 7, and Brandon, 3, back at home.

Last month, Freddie found out that Max was rushed to the emergency room in pain and was unable to "sit, stand or walk" because of it.
The toddler had "stopped eating or drinking and was very lethargic," according to Chelsea's Instagram Story at the time. He was eventually diagnosed with his health condition, which is caused by the hip joint's lining becoming inflamed.
Earlier this month, Chelsea shared an update about Max's health condition on Instagram, which included his follow-up diagnosis. "Last Friday, Max rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis. We are very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time so they could reinforce his lungs," she began.
"Freddie was in Houston at the time and rushed to the first flight back home. After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. A rare neurological condition that is especially rare in children," Chelsea continued.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Guillain-Barré syndrome occurs when the "body's immune system attacks the nerves." The exact cause isn't known.
