MOBO Awards Give ‘Best Song’ Prize To Wrong Act!

The MOBO Awards took place in Glasgow last night, and in the midst of celebrating the great and the good of the music industry there was a little faux pas when they announced the winners of the ‘Best Song’ award.

KISS FM DJs Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom had to do some MAJOR backtracking when WSTRN were accidentally announced as the winners of the top prize.

The London trio even got up and gave an acceptance speech! Oh, the shame.

Anyway, the award should have gone to Abra Cadabra featuring Krept and Konan, so the hosts had to apologise later on.

“OK, so ladies and gentleman, we’re extremely sorry but somebody picked up the wrong envelope for best song earlier on,“ Ricky said. "The wrong winners were announced. So… we need to correct that.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that MOBO 2016 Best Song goes to Abra Cadabra Ft. Krept and Konan - Robbery” .

The production team later tweeted their own apology, with Simon Pizey – MD of Done&Dusted – writing: 'I’m sorry it shouldn’t have happened and apologise especially to @MOBOawards, @ITV2 and @WSTRN.

'In over 20 years of live TV we’ve never made a mistake like this, but due to human error the wrong winner for MOBO best song was announced tonight.’.

It wasn’t the only criticism the awards show faced – with top model Jourdan Dunn slamming the audience in Glasgow for not being as enthusiastic as they should have been, and demanding that the awards come back to London.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom in Scotland last night though, with Craig David celebrating his ninth MOBO award for Best Male - topping off an incredible return to the limelight this year.

He told reporters: "I’m overwhelmed and honoured. The public have supported me from the beginning. To be back here with a new album it’s just crazy. I just want to thank everyone who’s been there since 1999 and the Artful Dodger days.

"The crowds here have been amazing over the course of my 16 years performing, so to be actually able to perform here again - and the MOBOs have supported me from 2000, so it’s been an amazing journey. It’s a celebration of music and I’m just happy to be a part of it to be honest.”
