Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Susan said what advice Duff gave her as she started her writing process.

“He's such a brilliant writer, his book was a New York Times best seller and he went back to school at 30.

“That's remarkable and everyone has someone that inspires them, Brian May is the inspiration for him and Duff was that way for me. I got to see him go through that writing process and it was more cohesive with my lifestyle. Being on tour, being on a plane or a tour bus, in my pyjamas I could work on the writing, rewriting and writing again.

“It didn't come easy, it did take nine years, it was a lot of hard work. It's probably the hardest thing I've ever done.”

Explaining why her she spent years working on the novel, she continued: “I worked hard on trying to build my writing chops up, you work at a craft and you see it getting stronger and getting confidence.

“I spent a lot of time researching and making sure I could represent who I was writing about in the best light. It's my way of giving back. I just enjoy writing and I have a wonderful team, great publisher, my literary agent.”

With the book taking inspiration from Susan’s life as a fashion model and wife of a rock star, she admitted a few real life events may have snuck into the pages.

“You may have read or heard about some stories publicly, maybe they were a year ago, maybe they were 20 years ago, so maybe something might resonate and then you can guess.

“In some circumstances I've blended characters and storylines. It's more concise and gets to the point. That's why I think this book stands out, it's really fast paced and it gets right to the point, it drops you right in and it's fast paced from the get go.”
