Model 3: Tesla Launches Its Most Affordable Electric Car Yet

Electric car maker Tesla has unveiled its cheapest vehicle yet, with an ‘affordable’ price tag of $35,000 (£24,500).

The Model 3 is said to have a range of at least 215 miles (346km) per charge.

Speaking at the launch of the new prototype, CEO and SpaceX boss Elon Musk said that 115,000 have so far pre-ordered the five-seater electric car, which is due to go into production in late 2017.

Unveiling the car to the waiting crowd, Musk said: ”We think you are going to be blown away”.

The semi-autonomous Model 3 comes with autopilot hardware with safety features, along with fast charging capabilities. The car is able to automatically change lanes.

Tesla plans to produce up to 500,000 vehicles a year, said Musk.

Costing nearly £25,000, the Model is hardly cheap, but it is a much more affordable option than Tesla’s Model S or Model X cars.

The car is available for pre-order now in the UK, with a deposit of £1,000.
