A terrorist brought down by police gunfire got back up to his feet and taunted officers in scenes described by witnesses as like a “horror film”.

Police shot dead five attackers as they attempted to thwart a second atrocity hours after the Barcelona van massacre killed 13 people.

A car ploughed into pedestrians in Cambrils in the early hours of Friday before gunfire broke out close to the coastal town’s beachfront promenade. One woman was killed.

Now footage of the police effort to halt the attack has emerged showing one of the terrorists being shot at several times before falling down.

The video shows shocked onlookers watching as he then returns to his feet while officers scream at him to get down.

But the attacker paces back and forth appearing to taunt armed police, prompting them to open fire again until he collapses in a heap the road.

Fitzroy Davies, from Wolverhampton, said it was like watching a "horror film" as panic engulfed the busy street while residents were ordered to take cover indoors as bullets tore through the air.

Mr Davies, who was in town for a judo camp, described seeing a crazed attacker behaving "like somebody who was on drugs", before being shot.

He told Sky News: "He then fell down and then within two seconds he stood back up.

"He then stepped over the fence, charged the police again and the police then gave some more shots and then he fell down again."

One woman died and six people, including a police officer, were injured before police could take down the assailants.

Several controlled blasts were carried out in the area in the wake of the incident, which is thought to be linked to the Barcelona attack.
