This is the moment a bungling mob of would-be smash-and-grab thieves made off after a failed raid on a Knightsbridge shop.

CCTV footage released by the Met shows four suspects, all dressed in black and wearing helmets, fleeing on two mopeds after the failed raid in broad daylight.

Police said the suspects pulled up at about 10.30am on Friday September 22 to the shop in Cheval Place. One blocked the road while three tried to kick the shop door in.

But two staff members and a customer were inside and sounded the alarm.

The suspects failed to kick the door in and left empty-handed.

On Wednesday, 27 September, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has since been bailed to a date in late October.

Detective Constable Lucy Gallimore, from Kensington and Chelsea CID, said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward and speak to police.

"The CCTV we are releasing captures the suspects outside the store.

"You may recognise the bikes they are riding or perhaps the clothing and helmets they are wearing."

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 or, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
