Moment bungling moped burglar is flattened by pane of glass he tried to smash in raid on north London estate agents

This is the moment a bungling moped burglar was flattened by a falling sheet of glass as he attempted to smash his way into an estate agents.

CCTV footage appears to show the helmeted suspect pull up with an accomplice and use a block to batter through the glass frontage - only for the 130lb window pane to crash down and send him sprawling to the pavement.

The youth picked himself up and snatched a £2,000 iMac computer from the desk but slipped again as he turned to go - before the pair made their escape.

Matt Friedlander, 37, who runs the Flats and Houses estate agent in Stamford Hill, north London, with his brother Josh, said: “The muppets come along with a soft rubber block and they hit the window so hard the frame came off and the whole lot fell down.

“He must have got such a shock. If he didn’t have a helmet on, he would have been knocked out for sure.

“His ears were probably ringing after that. He’s such a mug.”

Mr Friedlander said had raced from his home in Hendon after being woken at about 2.20am yesterday morning by an automatic call from his security system.

He added: “These windows are very hard to smash. We just had to lift it up and pop it back in again.”

The cost of re-fitting the window pane in the early hours of the morning had come to £270, Mr Friedlander said.

But he added: “I’m not worried about it – the fact is its funny. For £270, it made us all laugh, so its worth it. I laugh every time I see it.

“I’m sure he was dizzy, that’s why he was dancing around the office. I don’t think they’re going to come back.”
