Moment hero flung into busy road from bonnet of robbers' getaway car
This is the shocking moment a have-a-go-hero is flung from a car bonnet as he tried to stop two robbers from fleeing the crime scene.
On Tuesday, Leeds Crown Court heard how the man sprung into action after Keith Wilcox robbed a woman of her purse outside a Morrison's in Enterprise Way, Castleford, on September 1 this year.
The woman shouted for someone to take a picture of the registration number of the Vauxhall Corsa being driven by Wilcox's getaway driver and partner in crime, Lisa Burgess.

Prosecutor Jennifer Gatland said: "A man tried to stop the defendants by going to the car door and trying to get the driver out to detain her. He missed, and Lisa Burgess reversed the vehicle to avoid him. He grabbed onto the bonnet but Lisa Burgess carried on driving, while he was hanging off the vehicle.
"The defendants told him to get off but he told them to stop the car. She drove the car for around a third of a mile before the car jerked and he was he was thrown from the vehicle. He landed in the road and hit his head."
Burgess and Wilcox fled the scene in the car, and although a member of the public had remembered the registration plate, it was later found they had tampered with it.
The man suffered injuries to his head and body, including fractured ribs. Wilcox and Burgess were eventually arrested and on Tuesday were jailed for 20 months and three years.
Footage was then released by West Yorkshire Police. The force has also released footage of Burgess unsuccessfully using the woman's debit card that was stolen by Wilcox during the robbery. The clip shows her trying to buy a large bottle of vodka.
Following the sentencing, Police Constable Natalie Carr, of Wakefield District Crime Team (DCT), said: “The male victim has shown immense bravery standing up against something that he knew to be wrong.
"We all have a part to play in challenging violence against women and girls and I know how thankful the female robbery victim is for his actions.
“Burgess has put this man in extreme danger by continuing to drive at speed knowing that he was holding on to the vehicle.
"Even with the knowledge that she had left a man injured in the road, this has not deterred her from attempting to use a bank card that was stolen in the robbery a short time later.
“Both Wilcox and Burgess are rightly now behind bars for their actions.”
