Moment plane forced to abort landing at Manchester Airport in Storm Éowyn
A video shows the moment a plane was forced to abort its landing at Manchester Airport due to high winds brought about by Storm Éowyn. The Ryanair flight from Oslo was scheduled to touch down in Manchester at 11.05 this morning, but was forced back into the air due to the windy conditions.
The plane looped above the airport for some time, before it eventually landed at 11.52am. Gusts reached up to 60mph in the area causing dangerous conditions, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Airports across the country are facing disruption today as gale force winds batter the country. A number of flights have been cancelled or delayed, including those between Scotland and Northern Ireland and Liverpool.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport told the MEN that although there are high winds in the area, these are currently directed along the length of the runway, which was designed in the direction of the prevailing winds. This means that although the wind is strong, it is not currently as disruptive as a crosswind.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: "A small number of flights to/ from the UK today (Fri, 24 Jan) are experiencing disruptions due to Storm Éowyn. We are advising passengers who have been affected by the storm to check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.
"Ryanair sincerely apologises to all passengers affected by these storm-related disruptions, which are entirely beyond our control and have impacted all airlines operating to/from the UK.”
