The non-venomous milk snake was found on Stepney Way just before 10am on Monday by officers on patrol.

According to Tower Hamlets police, the snake "made a break for it" before it was safely captured.

It said: "Quick reactions and intervention ensured the snake was caught safely."

Footage of the bizarre discovery was posted online and shows the moment officers equipped with gloves, try and pick up the animal.

One officer appears to grab the animal's head while another catches hold of its tail.

Together, they manage to put the animal in a box.

It's currently unclear where the snake came from.

Milk snakes can grow up to 152cm in length, and are commonly bred to be pets.
