A "cowboy builder" told Dominic Littlewood: "I know what will happen if you don't move soon" when the presenter confronted him.

Last week, YorkshireLive reported how Mark Hawley and his son Nicholas had been ordered to pay out to a Sheffield woman who said she had been left living in a "war zone" after hiring them to undertake work on the property's loft and put in an extension at the back of it. Read the full story here.

The woman spoke out as Sheffield City Council urged members of the public to be vigilant as part of a regional week of action to raise awareness of rogue traders.

She said that unbeknown to her at the time she hired Hawley, he had already been featured in an episode of Cowboy Builders. The Channel 5 show, presented by Dominic Littlewood, aims to expose cowboy builders and help families and home affected by them. In the episode, aired in 2014, Dom met doctors Iain and Sarah Goodhart, who said they had been left out of pocket.

Sarah said: "It went from bad to worse..."

The couple said in August 2012, Hawley had quoted them £58,000 for a double-sided storey extension - but the work was never completed. Iain described Hawley as "very sociable, outgoing" and "looked the part" at first.

The couple said Hawley started work on their house in October the same year and told them it would take 20 weeks to complete, but it went over schedule.

Iain said: "The moment we gave the money, the excuses came - 'the car's broke down,' or 'it's the wrong sort of weather." The programme said eight months in structural issues came to light.

They had already paid Hawley £57,000 - and he walked when he was confronted by Iain, who said he told him: "That's all you're getting."

During the episode, viewers were also shown images of asbestos that Hawley had left in the garden. They were told a county court judgement had been issued against Hawley.

Dominic also spoke with other previous customers who had used Hawley's services, including a woman who was, at the time, undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Tracy Bellamy had employed Hawley to undertake a single-story kitchen extension, garage conversion and downstairs toilet.

She said "towards the end he started not turning up, leaving early, saying things wasn't in the plans and they weren't going to do the work."

She told Dominic: "He knew I wasn't in a fit state to argue really. I didn't want the hassle anymore." She said the original quote was for £23,000, but despite giving him an extra £1,000, he left the downstairs toilet unfinished and a trench in the back garden.

She said on the programme: "I don't think he's got a conscience. I don't think he cared."

During the episode, Dominic also spoke to two workers employed to do guttering work on the Goodhart's home. They said Hawley owed them £890.

Dominic went on to confront Hawley in a Morrisons car park as he loaded his shopping into the boot of his car. Dominic said: "No answer at all? Don't you think that's pretty spineless considering all of the money you have taken from them?"

Hawley could be heard saying: "I know what will happen if you don't move soon" and "I told you that I would answer without a TV camera."

Dominic told Hawley: "I'm very disappointed in your attitude and your behaviour" before addressing viewers and saying: "If you're looking for a builder - shop around a bit."
