Monaco Grand Prix: 'The toughest track for pit crews'

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, the Sahara Force India Formula One team have revealed the challenges of the job.

Curtis Stones is a mechanic at Sahara Force India, the UK F1 racing team.

The 26-year-old travels the world ensuring the 80,000 parts of the F1 cars are in working order before each race.

The job of pit crews is very meticulous and the job has to be performed in an instant - in a race, every second counts.

Mr Curtis said that changing a wheel takes his team less than two seconds.

In fact, his team is so efficient that their organisational skills have even provided tips to people like surgeons.

He explained: “Our roles are so clearly defined that we were actually approached by hospitals and surgery theatres for them to learn about how we do things and how they can improve their systems.”

According to him, the Monaco track is the toughest for pit crews. As the workshop in organised on two floors, Mr Curtis said he finds it a “nightmare” to get the material in and out.
