Diego Simeone is seeking to exorcise Atletico Madrid's Champions League demons this season and finally lift the famous trophy.

Atletico have finished as runners-up in the competition on three occasions, with Simeone's men tasting bitter defeat to city rivals Real Madrid in both 2014 and 2016.

But Atleti are on a roll in Europe after winning last season's Europa League before beating Real 4-2 in the Uefa Super Cup final to lay down a marker for the coming campaign.

Simeone's men kick off their 2018-19 campaign away to a Monaco side who reached the 2016-17 finals of the tournament, but have struggled to stay among Europe's elite since selling the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy.
