Monsoon Rains Cause Flooding in Mumbai

Heavy rain caused flooding in Mumbai, India, on July 3, after an orange alert was issued for several areas and the weather bureau declared active monsoon conditions over the city.

This footage, posted to Twitter by Chirag Jain, shows flooding in the city’s Agripada area.

India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Twitter intense to very intense rain was likely to continue across most areas of the city.

According to news reports, radar images indicated active monsoon conditions over Mumbai and its surrounding areas.

Isolated parts of south and central Mumbai recorded 70 mm of rain overnight from July 2 into July 3, according to IMD’s western region deputy director, as quoted by the Hindustan Times. Credit: Chirag Jain via Storyful
