Love Island’s Montana Brown has claimed that couples formed on the ITV2 dating show feel like they need to stay together to boost their bank balances.

The 24-year-old split from her own Love Island beau Alex Beattie not long after they were dumped from the villa in 2017.

But she said contestants tend to think being in a loved-up pair will help them make more money when the show ends.

She told MailOnline: “People feel a lot of pressure to stay in their couples when they come out the villa.

“They think we will make more money this way and it's a good look.”

The reality star also said being in a couple outside the villa can “feel like a comfort blanket” as it is daunting leaving Love Island behind and getting back to the real world.

While dozens of couples have been made on the show – with 2020 winter series winners Paige Turley and Finn Tapp the latest – many of the romances have hit the rocks when filming ends.

Even 2018 winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham - widely thought to be a couple who would go the distance - parted ways months after triumphing on the show.

However, the programme has also had its share of success stories, with 2016 couple Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland tying the knot and Dom Lever and Jess Shears, who were on the programme in 2017, marrying and having a baby together.
