Jared Leto is on fine form as he takes a leading role in the Sony/Marvel Spiderverse starring in new spin-off movie, Morbius.

The actor portrays Marvel's Living Vampire in the first trailer in two years dropping to tease what’s coming up.

In the film, Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliantly-minded biologist whose efforts to cure his own blood condition eventually comes at a cost.

Soon, in exchange for his health and superpowers, Morbius discovers he also has an unquenchable thirst for bloody.

New clues in the film confirm the film’s attachment to the wider Spiderverse as a whole, with connections to the Tom Hardy Venom series, as well as upcoming Tom Holland Spiderman flick, No Way Home.

This is only cemented further with the arrival of The Vulture (Michael Keaton). The criminal mastermind was Holland’s version of Peter Parker’s first villain in standalone film, Homecoming.

However, it also seems to further spin the growing consensus that Marvel and Sony are about to breach a ‘Multiverse’ plot with heroes and villains from different universes crossing paths.

This may also include Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Peter Parker, with clues from their versions of the story also being dropped in as Easter Eggs in the trailer.

In the two-minute long clip, a copy of the Daily Bugle Newspaper — spearheaded by J Jonah Jameson — was seen. The paper was prominent during Maguire’s stint in the Spider-suit.

The website of the newspaper also outed Holland's Peter Parker's real identity at the end of the second of his Spiderman trilogy, Far From Home.

On its front page is the discussion of an escaped rhino from the local zoo - with Rhino (played by Paul Giamatti) being a prominent enemy against Garfield’s Spiderman.

Does this confirm the multiverse story is actually in full effect?

Originally, Morbius was due for release in July 2020 - months ahead of Venom sequel, There Will Be Carnage.

However, due to coronavirus and industry shut down, it was pushed back to January next year - meaning it’s coming out later than not only Venom, but also Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It’s not known yet if this will have a major effect on spoilers for the film - or if anything in the trailer is actually just a ruse to pique our interest.

It wouldn’t be the first time Sony and Marvel would have done this for spoiler-hunting fans.

Morbius hits cinemas 28 January, 2022.
