More Than 100 Homes Damaged in Virginia Beach After Destructive EF-3 Tornado

More than 100 homes were damaged by an EF-3 tornado that moved through Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Sunday, April 30, officials said.

Video recorded by Billy Cunningham shows the powerful tornado moving easterly over Broad Bay. Cunningham told Storyful he stopped recording to make sure his family were safe.

“I immediately realized it may impact my home and I stopped filming to call my girlfriend to have her take shelter in our basement garage. It missed our home by less than half a mile,” Cunningham said.

The Virginia Beach City Government said on Monday that “approximately 115 homes” were damaged by the tornado, with no reports of injury or deaths. Credit: Billy Cunningham via Storyful
