More than 300 homes to be built in 'vibrant' £100m development
A £100m scheme will see the construction of more than 300 apartments in north Liverpool. Legacie and Nexus Residential have announced the launch of 'Soapworks', a mixed-use development on the former Tannery site on Bevington Bush, just off Leeds Street and Scotland Road in Vauxhall.
The scheme follows the acquisition of the land and will feature a mixture of residential apartments, private amenities and commercial spaces, adding to the regeneration of what Legacie is calling the city's 'Northern Quarter'. The development, which will be built by Legacie’s construction arm, will include 381 apartments, offering a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes across multiple residential buildings.
Soapworks will also boast a gym, a spa, a coffee shop, and dedicated 'relaxation zones'. There are also plans to upgrade the existing car park with electric vehicle charging stations.

John Morley, CEO of Legacie, said: “Soapworks represents a major step forward in Liverpool’s regeneration. This project will not only deliver much-needed housing but will also be a vibrant hub with world-class amenities. We’re creating a space where residents can live, work, and thrive, while supporting Liverpool’s long-term growth and economic development.
"We are also looking forward to working with Liverpool City Council again. At its most recent developer forum, this part of the city centre was identified as having the potential to be a massive driver of investment.
"Soapworks takes us to over 1,000 units on site in the Leeds Street corridor. Soapworks is expected to generate more than 200 jobs during construction, alongside a range of ongoing roles in retail, leisure, and site management."
Michael Gledhill, managing director of Nexus Residential, added: “Soapworks is more than just a place to live - it’s a community designed for the future. We’re creating a space that reflects Liverpool’s industrial heritage while positioning it as a forward-thinking, dynamic city.
"The world-class amenities on offer will set this project apart, and we are confident that Soapworks will play a key role in driving further investment into the Northern Quarter.”
Soapworks is expected to generate more than 200 jobs during construction, alongside a range of ongoing roles in retail, leisure, and site management. Meanwhile international sales agency, RWinvest, will oversee the off-plan sales of the development.
The Soapworks acquisition follows in the footsteps of The Gateway, another development by Legacie and Nexus. These projects are bringing new homes to the Leeds Street area.
