More Than A Quarter Of Brits Use Their Smartphones On The Toilet

Brits are so obsessed with their smartphones that over one in four use them while on the toilet, according to a new study.

Some 26% of us are unable to keep away from Facebook and WhatsApp for even a moment and feel the need to use our phones while answering the call of nature.

And that has invariably resulted in phones being dropped down the loo or in the bath.

The study found that technology is ruling our lives, with 14% of us admitting to replying to emails while walking along the street - risking injury by bumping into post boxes and street lights.

The research was carried out by CrossCountry to find out how the sexes differ when it comes to multitasking.

Nearly half (46%) of us carry out multiple activities like reading a book or catching up on emails while travelling - mostly on the train (46%), compared to just 7% on buses.

Other activities on the train include looking for love, with 15% of Leicester residents admitting to flirting with members of staff or their fellow commuters.

And in the multitaskers battle, only 11% of men regard themselves as the best, while 61% of women think they rule supreme.

Emma Rudge, Customer Service Manager for CrossCountry, said: “We’re not surprised so many people decide to make the most of their journey, the train is the perfect place for people to read a good book, catch up on work or on their sleep.”

Or find a partner, natch.
