Music fans have been flooding to Spotify and iTunes as they celebrate the life and work of David Bowie.

Released two days before he passed away, Bowie’s masterful final album Blackstar was en route to the top of the charts before news of his death hit.

But as well as number one, Bowie currently holds the top five album slots on iTunes. He also has a further 17 albums in the top 40 from across the entire span of his career.

The entire top ten selling music videos on iTunes are also Bowie’s.

Within ten minutes of the official confirmation that David Bowie had died, Spotify streams of his music were up 2,700%.

The sad news of his death was announced at 6.30am yesterday and, according to Spotify, we streamed five times more David Bowie music between 7am and 4pm than during the 48 hours before.

The music streaming company confirmed to Quartz that as of 11:43pm, more than four million Spotify users had listened to Bowie in the last month, with around 81,000 of them hitting play on Spotify for the first time yesterday.

Anyone looking to complete their collection may want to consider buying from Rough Trade, which is honouring the great man by donating all profits from Bowie records this January to Cancer Research.
