The sky over Stayton, Oregon, glowed an ominous red on the morning of September 8, as the Lionshead and Beachie Creek fires burned nearby, just two of several across the state in what Gov Kate Brown has called an unprecedented fire event.
The Marion County Sheriff had a number of evacuation orders in place, and told residents of Stayton to be ready to leave.
Paige Hook, a local councilor, shot this footage, describing it as showing the smoke-darkened sky at 9 am.
