This Morning got rather chaotic today (September 18) during an interview with a man who brought a clown to a redundancy meeting.

Yep, really.

New Zealander Josh Thompson hit the headlines in the past week after he decided to get support from a professional clown while being laid off from his copywriting job.

That's because under the country's laws, employers are obliged to allow people attending serious meetings to have another person present.

Josh appeared on the ITV show via live link alongside his clown Joe, explaining that he took the professional funnyman along after fearing the worst from his employers.

"I thought the news was going to be quite bad, and if it's going to be bad news I best get a professional in, obviously family and friends – the usual support people," he recalled.

"But, to be honest, my mum can't even juggle! So I thought it best to get Joe in to make a few balloon animals and keep my spirits high."

Fair enough.

The interview took an even more entertaining turn thanks in part to a delay in the live link, while Josh decided to take the mickey during the chat too, at one point poking fun at himself after catching a glimpse of his own haircut.

"I want to acknowledge quickly that haircut is the worst one I've ever gotten... it's the official haircut of the jobless," he joked, with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield barely able to contain their laughter.

Things got even more bizarre as the clown then started to casually make balloon animals while Josh was talking... and the guest took out a photo of Phil too (for some reason).

Holly and Phil later tried to ask Joe a question, not realising that the clown didn't actually have an earpiece, so Josh decided to have some more fun by proceeding to change the presenters' original question to one about his favourite animal.

Thankfully, Josh revealed he is now employed, declaring: "It's a case of a short-necked goose is just a duck."

It's safe to say viewers at home loved Josh:

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
