Morrisons breaks silence over shortages after shoppers left outraged
Morrisons has broken its silence after shoppers were left raging by supermarket shortages. Morrisons, which is rivalled by Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi and more, has had its say after social media complaints from angry customers.
Taking to Twitter/X this week, one customer fumed: "Guys what’s going on, most shelves in your Blackpool store empty today!" Another said: "What’s happened to your Wednesbury store today please? The shelves were half empty, like it is after a bank holiday etc!!" A third person commented: "Shelves are always empty and you can never get even the most basic ingredients.
"Can never get everything needed for a simple recipe. Today no broccoli, no lemons, no peppers, no loose onions. These are basic things!" Another shopper said: "Went in Morrisons earlier, shelves were looking very empty. No eggs, bread, milk."

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "We are currently operating satisfactorily on our back up systems and we're working very hard to deliver for our customers across the country." It comes after a software system the retailer uses to control its supply chain was hit by hackers. The ransomware attack has seen the supermarket suffering from a lack of fresh stock including fruit and veg. It is understood dried and frozen goods are unaffected with stock levels as per normal.
A Blue Yonder spokesperson said: "Blue Yonder experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which was determined to be the result of a ransomware incident. Since learning of the incident, the Blue Yonder team has been working diligently together with external cybersecurity firms to make progress in their recovery process."
The statement from the company went on and explained to angry Morrisons shoppers: "We have implemented several defensive and forensic protocols. We have notified relevant customers and will continue to communicate as appropriate."
